Garuda to resume flights to Europe next year

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Garuda Indonesia`s planes will resume flying to Europe from Indonesia at the end of next year after the state-owned company suspended its flights to European destinations in 2004 because of losses.
"(Garuda will resume flying) on condition that flight ban to Europe has been lifted, and Garuda has proper planes to resume the flights," Garuda managing director, Emirsyah Satar told the press here Friday after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the national flag-carrier and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Emirsyah said, the right choice now for the flights to Europe would be the wide-bodied long-distance airliners for the Jakarta-Amsterdam and Bali-Amsterdam flights.
"We should determine the best choice, Airbus 330 or Boeing 777," Emisryah said, adding that Amsterdam has become the most potential destination.
Meanwhile, head of the Garuda communications affairs Pujobroto commented that a comprehensive study should be conducted on the planned resumption of Garuda flights to Europe.
"The study should cover competitiveness and market segment, for instance Garuda will use Boeing 747 focusing on business people," Pudjobroto said.
Garuda, Indonesia`s biggest air carrier has been operating aircraft of 48 different types to 30 domestic and 24 overseas destinations.(
